Amara Elytral Pore

The pore (Fig.1), once seen, is obvious and instantly recognisable. As it is present in one of our most common species, Amara plebeja Gyllenhal, it will soon become familiar. On the other hand, until one is familiar with this character it can be easy to imagine its existence where the scutellar stria and the second stria meet in a well formed deep pit (Fig.2), this becomes (for the beginner) perhaps ambiguous when using Lindroth (1974) who states 'pore-puncture' rather than simply 'pore'.
