A genus of the Cantharidae Rhagonycha can be separated from other genera of the
family by the following
- Elytra complete, entirely covering the hind wings (Malthinus, Malthodes). Plate 1
- Front edge of the clypeus NOT
protruding forward and the pronotum only finely punctured (if at all) (Silis)
- Pronotum NOT possessing deep basal foveae (Podabrus). Plate 2
- Third tarsal segment of both meso and meta tarsi simple (Ancistronycha, Cantharis). Plate 3
- All tarsal claws split longitudinally (Ancistronycha, Cantharis). Plate 3
